Delta 8 THC Effects: What You Should Know
Delta 8 THC is the new sitcom bad kid of the cannabis industry. By the way people describe it you would think it’s the criminal of the cannabis crew. When in reality, it just looks like a rebel. So, what really are the effects of cannabis’s very own Danny Zuko?
General effects
You know it by now: Delta 8 THC. It’s basically Delta 9 THC’s brother who learned that being a rebel isn’t a whole personality. It will give your mind and body the lift and relief it craves, without sending you in a paranoid and anxious spiral. The general effects range from euphoria, relaxation, focus and creativity, and appetite stimulation.
The side effects are similar to Delta 9 THC but more so dry mouth and dizziness, and less, “Does my neighbor track the number of times per day I laugh out loud alone in my apartment?”
Delta 8 THC and the entourage effect
The Entourage Effect is the synergistic effect of multiple cannabis compounds working together at once. This produces greater effects. Basically, all compounds have their specialty. When they work together, they produce a greater overall effect depending on your goal (energy/focus or relaxation/sleep).
This is why terpenes in the different strains of Delta 8 THC are very important. They are the miracle workers behind it all! Combining Delta 8 THC and CBD can also help enhance the effects of Delta 8. CBD can pick up where delta 8 might leave off, and vice versa.
Are there different strains in Delta 8 THC?
Yes, just like Delta 9 THC, Delta 8 THC can be divided into Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid strains. Getting to know each strain and paying attention to them is extra important while buying a product. All D8 is not created equal. No one wants to end up having an existential crisis at the office.
Sativa is the energy strain. It will provide a head high that translates into euphoria and creativity. Keep this one in your home office for a boost in productivity.
Indica is the nighttime strain. With its body high, relaxation effects, and appetite stimulation, it’s perfect to enjoy in front of your favorite show with a snack before bed.
Hybrid strains usually offer the best of both worlds and are best kept for daytime use. However, they are usually either Sativa or Indica dominant. Always keep an eye out for which strain wears the pants in your product.
What does science say?
Just like CBD, Delta 8 THC’s success kinda proceeds the research. While there is some available, more studies are needed to establish what is the real effect of Delta 8 THC and what isn’t.
Here is what the preliminary research shows:
- One study into delta 8 THC found that this cannabinoid has potential antineoplastic qualities, which means that it might help with cancer. In 2020, this older research was followed up by a new study into the potential benefits of delta 8 for breast cancer.
- Other preliminary studies have shown that Delta 8 THC fights chemotherapy-induced nausea better than other drugs, and increased the appetite better than Delta 9 THC, but those have need yet been followed up by other studies that would confirm those effects.
