What Is Delta 8 Extract?

We often talk about Delta 8 THC, the final product. But how cool would it be to shine at your next party by telling your friends about the process of extracting Delta 8 THC and its close relation to CBD? Disclaimer though: this is not a great flirting tactic.

What is Delta 8 extract?

You ever just sit and think about all the plant products we use and take for granted? Essential oils, beers, wine, CBD, Delta 8… It comes from a plant with leaves and all and we just accept that we get to enjoy it in any form we want.

What enables us to enjoy those products is extraction. There are two methods to extract and enjoy hemp products; distillation or extraction. And in Delta 8 THC’s case, both methods.

Indeed, Delta 8 extract is the result of Delta 8 THC extraction from CBD directly from the hemp flower.

Delta 8 is extracted from CBD by creating a reaction between an acid reagent and a CBD distillate. It is then neutralized by an alkaline solution. The extract then goes through chromatography to be in compliance with THC regulation.

Is there a difference with Delta 8 THC distillate?

Delta 8 THC distillate is obtained by distilling the Delta 8 THC converted from CBD. This is where the difference between Delta 8 distillate and Delta 8 extract lies. Delta 8 distillate takes an extra step and is obtained from Delta 8 extract.

This is mostly important to be in compliance with regulations of hemp products. Even though some states have legalized some or all use of marijuana, Delta 8 products still have to contain under 0.3% of THC. Can’t be having too much fun out of something that isn’t labeled delta 9 THC…

How is it used?

It seems as long as the federal regulation on THC and other cannabinoids remain as it is right now, there will not be any use for Delta 8 extract other than to be distilled and used to make all Delta 8 products currently available on the market.

Although, for some people, part of the fun of any cannabinoid is the distinctive taste and smell. Therefore some of the terpenes separated from the Delta 8 distillate during distillation are used to re-add those flavors to the final product. Making little rebels happy is the backbone of cannabis culture and always will be!

That is a fractional part of Delta 8 extract, but as far as the products we currently buy, this the only part of it that can still make the cut to be part of the final product.

How do I make sure of the quality of a product before buying?

Not to toot our own horn, but at DD8 Shop we vet products before we even think about bringing them on the website. That would be your first hint.

Then, COAs are not required by law (yet), but they are a good way to attest to the level of quality of the product. You can find out how to read it and what information to look for here.

Lastly, as for any product ever bought on the internet, make sure the website is reliable. From the little lock in the URL bar to the reviews, make sure it all checks out!
